Gig Photography Exhibition, by Deborah Mullen
Gig Photography Exhibition, by Deborah Mullen
6 June – 17 June at Leith Depot
Deborah Mullen moved to Leith in 2011 and became a documentarian of Edinburgh’s live music scene.
From the early days of popular music, photography has helped to define what rock is and what it does, both for performers and audiences. American photographer Deborah Mullen moved to Leith in 2011 and quickly found herself in the role of citizen documentarian for Edinburgh’s music scene. This role expanded over time into capturing live performances in venues that are currently on the endangered list as Edinburgh’s native culture succumbs to property developers. Several venues shown here have already disappeared, and more, including this one, Leith Depot, are threatened. Ms Mullen’s photos offer a window into the emotionality and importance of live music.
Exhibition opening 5-7 6th June.
